Nutritional Services

Meet The Nutrition Team

At America’s Rehab Campus, we recognize that proper nutrition is a vital part of recovery. We believe that a healthy diet will help your body heal the right way. With our holistic approach to sober living and recovery, we also believe it’s important to provide nutritional counseling so that our clients can lead healthy lives long after their initial treatment.

When you are a client at ARC, you receive sessions with our Dietitian as well as Nutritionist within your first week of stay.

The food prepared is delicious, nutritious and very healthy. On that note, we also prepare more comfort food meals like gourmet hamburgers, pot roast, steaks and mashed potatoes, spaghetti, etc.

Wholesome Nutrition: The Path to Recovery

Addiction promotes malnourishment. Alcohol addicts, for example, consume a lot of empty calories every day, and thus fail to eat a healthy diet with all the necessary nutrients. Drug abusers are often more focused on their next fix than they are about the next meal, which often leads to a serious lack of essential nutrients.

Addiction also affects the natural feel-good chemical response that comes from eating well. Drugs and alcohol can prevent your body from absorbing nutrients in your food, like tryptophan, that naturally promote feelings of well-being for your body and mind.

Nutrition and Holistic Recovery

Eating well is one of many essential lifestyle changes that can help addicts return to a healthy way of life. Our holistic approach to healing means we take our nutritional services seriously at America’s Rehab Campus. Our professional dietitians work one-on-one with clients to meet all their nutritional needs. We care about your preferences, and will ensure we prepare meals that you want to eat.

Additionally, we offer nutritional counseling for our clients so they can continue on a healthy track long after treatment at America’s Rehab.

Substance Abuse and Its Effect on the Body

Substance abuse on its own is damaging to the body, but poor nutrition while suffering from addiction can further disrupt your body’s ability to stay healthy. Substance abuse encourages poor nutrition, either as a result of not eating enough throughout the day, or eating foods that are low in essential nutrients. Certain substances, like stimulants, suppress the appetite, leading to a deficiency in daily calorie consumption. Other substances might increase the appetite, which can lead to unhealthy weight gain. Here are some other ways substance abuse can impact your nutrition:

  • Poor Eating: Many suffering from addiction forget to eat while under the influence. Others will prioritize their substance abuse over getting proper nutrition, which leads to diets lacking in adequate sustenance.
  • Malnourishment: Addiction leads to more skipped meals, which inhibits your body’s ability to absorb nutrients necessary for various biological processes.
  • Overeating: In some cases, addiction can lead to overeating. Rapid weight gain and excess body fat can lead to an array of health conditions.
  • Organ Damage: Certain substances can damage the stomach lining, liver, pancreas, and intestines, all of which make it more difficult to digest food and collect nutrients.
  • Weakened Immune System: Not only does poor nutrition affect your immune system function, but certain substances like alcohol and opiates can further suppress your immune system and invite infections and illnesses.

Proper Nutrition and Addiction Recovery

Understanding the way addiction impacts overall nutrition, hydration, and healthy eating are an essential part of the substance abuse healing process. Proper nutrition helps restore not just the body, but also the mind, as certain nutrient deficiencies can contribute to issues like depression, anxiety, and low energy levels.

At ARC, our dietary team understands the crucial role they play in our holistic recovery process. Where many treatment facilities only offer the bare minimum in terms of nutrition, we understand that eating well is critical to both your short-term and long-term recovery. Not only can eating well restore the body’s natural functions, but it can also help get rid of the harmful toxins incurred by addiction.

In part of our holistic approach to healing, the highly experienced nutrition staff at ARC provides meals that are nourishing to the body, and will restore your love for eating well. Our professional dieticians work with clients one-on-one to ensure their nutritional needs are being met. And that’s not all. We care about your preferences, and will prepare meals that you want to eat.
